アメリカの中学生との交流
アメリカの中学生（バージニア州サウスカウンティ中学校）とのプロジェクト
目白研心中学2年生は、英語（ACE）の授業でアメリカの中学生との交流をしています。
サウスカウンティ中学校のダウニング先生が目白研心を来訪されたことがきっかけで、教室の壁を越えたグローバルクラス交流が実現しました。
両校の生徒たちは互いに自己紹介のビデオレターを送り、手作りの自己紹介カードや写真、雑貨が詰まった「ディスカバリー・バッグ」の交換を行なっています。目白研心の生徒たちは美術の授業で、竹を一本ずつ竹割舵で割り、小刀や棒やすりで削りだして竹箸を制作しました。竹の表皮や節を生かして、それぞれ味のある手作りの良さが出た作品を作ることができました。プレゼントをすることを前提とした作品作りは初めてなので、相手のことを考えて丁寧に作業する姿が印象的でした。完成した竹箸、自己紹介のカード、うちわ・手ぬぐい・折り紙・雑誌・文房具をサウスカウンティの生徒たちに贈りました。この交流をきっかけにアメリカの学校生活や文化への興味が深まりました。目白研心の生徒たちからは、
「アメリカの同年代の生徒たちとの交流は楽しい。」「もっと日本の紹介をしたい。」という感想が寄せられました。
サウスカウンティの生徒たちも目白研心中学生との交流をきっかけに日本への関心を持つようになったそうです。ここに60人の生徒のうち3名の感想を紹介します。
「同年代の生徒たちと交流し、互いの文化や学校生活について学ぶとてもいいプロジェクトだと思います。ビデオや贈り物の交換だけでなく地球の反対側に友達を作ることができました。他の生徒たちにも体験してほしいので、今後も継続してほしいと思います。」
「それぞれの文化の違いや共通点を学びました。先入観なく互いの違いを受け入れることができたら、世界の新しいページを開くことができると思います。」
「異文化を学び、世界に広く関心を持つようになりました。コミュニケーション力を広げることは、私たちの将来に役に立つ重要なスキルです。大変貴重で心に残る交流となりました。」
最終プロジェクトとして、日本とアメリカの文化紹介のビデオの交換を予定しています。
Global Classroom Project
Students at Mejiro Kenshin are participating in a global classroom project with 7th grade students at South County Middle School in Lorton, Virginia. The global project started with students creating introductory videos about themselves and asking questions to their partners. The project expanded with students receiving gifts, handwritten notes, photographs and treats. Mejiro Kenshin students made bamboo chopsticks in their art class for their international pen pals. The final step in the global project will be for students to create a video of one aspect of Japanese or American culture.
Together, the students have explored new ways to connect, learn, and collaborate globally with other students. The joint project has allowed students to have the opportunity to learn together and to see the world beyond the walls of the classroom.

Overall, I really like this project. Not only did I see cool videos and get pretty gifts, I made friends that are halfway across the globe. I really hope that this exchange will continue as it is a great adventure.
This exchange should continue because it is a great way for students to learn about different cultures and be able to connect with others. Expanding your communication skills is amazing and will benefit you forever. This experience is one that I will never forget.
What I will take away from this project is that we are all different, but if we all unite and share our differences without judgment, I know that us human beings will turn a new page in our world.
