【ニュージーランド】SECターム留学レポート - A.M -
『日本の学校との違い』
私がニュージーランドの学校生活で一番驚いたことは、選択授業の種類の多さです。日本では書道、工芸、芸術、音楽から一つだけ教科を選び授業を受けていましたが、私がニュージーランドで通っている高校ではさらに幅広い分野から科目を選ぶことができました。必修科目とは別に、料理、写真、美容、ファッション、ダンス、演技などから自分で好きな分野を複数選び学んでいます。実際に私はバリスタの授業とファッションについて学べる授業を取りました。バリスタの授業ではコーヒーを作るための道具やその使い方を教わったり、カフェで提供されるような食べ物や飲み物を作ることができます。私は先日キャラメルラテを作りました。その授業がなければ経験できなかったことだと思うのでとてもワクワクしました。
もう一つのファッションの授業では、服の歴史について学んだり、服のデザインを考えたり、作ったりします。似ている趣味や目標を持った生徒と授業を受けられるので友達を作る良い機会になりました。これらの授業を通して、私は自分の得意なことや好きなことを新たに見つけられるとても貴重な時間が過ごせたと思いました。残りの約2ヶ月もさまざまなことに挑戦し、ここでしか得られない経験ができるように頑張りたいです。

The most surprising thing for me in my school life in New Zealand was the variety of elective classes. In Japan, I took only one subject from calligraphy, crafts, art, and music. However, in New Zealand, I was able to choose classes from a wider variety of subjects. There are many kinds of classes like cooking, photography, beauty, fashion, dance, acting, and so on here. Students can choose their favorite subject from them. Actually, I selected barista and fashion classes. In the barista class, we learn about tools for making coffee and how to use them. Also, we can make food and drinks served in a cafe. I recently made a caramel latte during class. I was so excited because I could not have experienced this if I had not chosen the class.
And in fashion class, I learned about the history of clothing and design and made clothing. This class gave me a nice opportunity to make new friends with similar hobbies and goals as me.
Through these classes, I was able to spend precious time, discovering new things that I was good at and liked. I would like to keep on challenging various things in the rest of the two months and do my best to gain experiences that I can only have here.
