【ニュージーランド】SECターム留学レポート - J.N -
ニュージーランドについてからもう三週間が経ちます。三週間があっという間に過ぎたように感じています。僕の家には自分以外にもう一人ドイツ人の15歳の留学生が住んでいて、僕たちはとても良好な関係性を築いています。例えば、一緒に登下校同じバスに乗り、放課後にはマクドナルドに行ったり、夕食の時間になったらその日の出来事をホストファミリーとドイツ人の子と話し合ったりしています。たまに、夕食の時間にみんなでソファーに座って、家の中で流行っているSWATのドラマを見ています。週末になったら、ホストマザーに動物園に連れて行ってもらったり、祝日には農園のイベントで馬のイベントや音楽フェスに連れてってもらったりしいました。まだ週末があるので、もっといろんなところに行って、僕のニュージーランドのファミリーたちとたくさん思い出を作りたいと思います。
僕がニュージーランドで最も感銘を受けたことは、ニュージーランドは自然をとても大事にしているということです。ですから、空港での入国も厳しいですし、身近なところに自然を保護するための仕事があります。例えば僕のホストマザーは今バイオセキュリティの仕事をしています。バイオセキュリティとは 、生物由来の脅威（ウイルス・細菌・害虫・外来種など）から人や環境、農業、経済を守るための対策を行う仕事です。そのため、たまに船で近くの島に行ってそこで調査をすることもあるそうです。ニュージーランドには国を代表する鳥や自然に生きるものがたくさんいます。なのでこのような仕事がとても重要視されていて、そこが日本とは異なるところだと僕は思いました。自然を守るための仕事がニュージーランドには身近なところにたくさんあるのです。
留学期間の三分の一がすでに経ちました。数えてみたらもう残り六週間しかないことに気づきました。貴重なこの機会を大事にして、たくさんのことを吸収して視野を広げて日本に帰りたいです。

Three weeks have passed since I arrived in New Zealand. The past three weeks feel like they've passed in a blink of an eye. In my house, there is another exchange program student who is from Germany and he is 15 years old. He came to the house a day after I arrived. We are having a good time together. We go to school together every day and sometimes we go to McDonalds after school. When we get back home, we discuss what happened that day with my host family. Sometimes, during dinner time, we all sit on the sofa and watch the popular SWAT drama at home. On weekends, my host mother took us to the Auckland Zoo, and on holidays, she took us to the farm and we experienced horseback riding. Also, she took us to music festivals. I still have some weekends left, so I want to go to more places and make more memories with my family in New Zealand.
One thing I was impressed with about New Zealand is that this country is very protective of nature. That is why they have strict border control, and there are many jobs dedicated to nature conservation. For example, my host mother is working as a biosecurity officer. Biosecurity is a job that protects people, the environment, agriculture, and the economy from biological threats (viruses, bacteria, pests, invasive species, etc.). Therefore, our host mother sometimes takes a boat to a nearby island to conduct investigations. New Zealand is home to many native birds and unique wildlife. That is why there are many important jobs related to nature conservation, which was, in my opinion, the most striking difference from Japan.
I counted how many weeks I have left in New Zealand and there are only 6 weeks to go. This is a great opportunity for me to speak English and experience a new culture. I want to make the most of it and broaden my horizons.
