【ニュージーランド】エイボンサイドガールズハイスクールより - S.K. -
ニュージーランドに来て一か月がたちました。ニュージーランドは夏だと聞いていましたが、肌寒く感じることが多いです。
私のホームステイ先ではホストマザーとドイツから来ている留学生と一緒に暮らしています。最初に空港で会ったとき、ホストマザーが骨折していて戸惑いましたが、ホストマザーや同じ留学生のルームメイトが優しく、いろいろなことを教えてくれたので、だんだん生活に慣れてきました。最近は、ハリーポッターの映画を英語字幕付きで見ています。ホストマザーやルームメイトがわからない単語や専門用語を教えてくれるので、内容が理解できるようになってきました。
最初は慣れなかった学校生活にもだんだん慣れてきましたが、まだ学校の構造に慣れておらず、時々迷子になってしまいます。そんなときは先生やルームメイトが助けてくれます。授業でも同じクラスの生徒が助けてくれて、そこから少しずつ話せるようになりました。
休日にはホストファミリーと川へピクニックに行ったり、ルームメイトと散歩をしたり、友人とシティを観光したり、ショッピングモールに行ったりしました。また、学校が主催するボランティアにも参加しています。
まだ現地の生徒と一緒に遊びに行けるほど仲良くなれていないので、残りの5か月でもっと仲良くなれるように英語を頑張ろうと思います。

It's been a month since I arrived in New Zealand. I heard that it's summer here, but it often feels a little cold. I'm staying with my host mother and another international student from Germany.
When we first met at the airport, my host mother had a broken bone, which surprised me a little. However, both my host mother and my roommate have been very kind and have taught me many things, so I am gradually getting used to life here. Recently, I have been watching the Harry Potter movies with English subtitles. My host mother and roommate explain unfamiliar words and technical terms to me, which helps me understand the story better.
School felt unfamiliar at first, but I am gradually getting used to it. However, I still get lost sometimes because I'm not used to the school layout yet. When that happens, my teachers and roommate help me. In class, the students in the same class also help me, and little by little I am becoming able to talk more.
On my days off, I have gone on picnics by the river with my host family, taken walks with my roommate, toured the city with friends, and visited shopping malls. I am also participating in volunteer activities organized by the school.
I haven't become close enough with local students to hang out together yet, so I plan to work hard on my English during the remaining five months so that I can build stronger friendships.
